Why is FindSomeone closing?
Why are you closing FindSomeone?
We've made the tough call to close FindSomeone from 30 November 2026. It's not a decision we made lightly, but it means we can put our energy and resources into the parts of Trade Me we can keep growing and improving for the long term.
What does this mean for members?
You can keep using FindSomeone as normal (logging in, messaging, browsing) right up until midnight on 30 November 2026. After that, the site will close for good. We'll be in touch again before then with reminders and details on subscriptions, refunds and downloading your data.
Will you send more warning before it actually closes?
We notified all FindSomeone members by email on 7 September. We'll follow up with a reminder about a month out, and we'll be in touch separately with any members who are eligible for a refund.
Could FindSomeone come back one day?
No. This is a permanent closure and there are no plans to relaunch FindSomeone in future.
Your account and data
Can I download my messages before the site closes?
Yes. We're building a tool that lets you download your messages, and an option to do this will appear in your FindSomeone account once it's ready. We'd recommend downloading anything you want to keep well before 30 November.
What happens to my data when you close?
Once we close on 30 November 2026, your data will no longer be accessible through the platform, so make sure you've downloaded anything important beforehand.
We will securely archive your FindSomeone data (your profile, photos and messages) and then delete it once it is no longer needed for potential dispute purposes or legally required to be retained.
How can I access my data if I want it after you close?
You won't be able to access your data though the platform. Once we close on 30 November 2026, your data will no longer be accessible to you, so make sure you've downloaded anything important beforehand.
I want to remove my profile from the site before you close. What should I do?
You can remove your profile any time before we close:
- Log in to your FindSomeone account.
- Open the menu in the top right.
- Go to Account Settings.
- Select Remove my profile.
Payments and subscriptions
I don't want to keep paying for something that's closing. Can I cancel my paid subscription now?
Yes, you can cancel your paid subscription now and your monthly payments will stop. To cancel your subscription:
- Log in to your FindSomeone account.
- Open the menu in the top right.
- Go to Account Settings.
- Select Cancel my subscription.
Will I be refunded if I've paid for a Gold subscription I can no longer fully use?
If your Gold subscription runs beyond 30 November 2026, we'll automatically refund the unused portion to your original payment method. We'll send a separate email before the closure date with details on how and when this will be processed.
What about my Privacy Plus subscription?
You'll keep your Privacy Plus benefits until you cancel or we close on 30 November 2026. Your last payment will go through in October 2026 unless you cancel sooner.
Will I be charged again before the site closes?
If you're on a monthly Gold or Privacy Plus subscription, your last payment will go through in October 2026, unless you cancel sooner.
What about message packs I've already bought?
You can keep using any message packs you've bought right up until FindSomeone closes at midnight on 30 November 2026. As these are one-off purchases rather than a subscription, we won't be refunding unused messages. We'd encourage you to use them up.
How long will I be able to buy new message packs?
From 9 November 2026, you won't be able to buy new message packs. You'll still be able to use up any packs you've already bought until we close.
Matches and getting in touch
Can I exchange contact details with matches before the site closes?
Yes, we'd encourage you to swap details with anyone you'd like to stay in touch with before 30 November 2026, while you still have access to your messages.
How can I stay safe when swapping contact details with a match?
Scammers may try to take advantage by asking new connections for money or personal details early on. Remember:
- Never send money or financial details to someone you haven't met in person.
- Be cautious of anyone pushing hard to move quickly or avoiding video calls.
- Trust your gut, if something feels off, it probably is.

Will my conversations be saved anywhere after the site closes?
No. Once FindSomeone closes, your conversations won't be accessible or recoverable, so save anything important beforehand.
Can I get another member's contact details after the site closes?
No. In line with our Privacy Policy, we're not able to share another member's personal or contact details at any time, including after closure.
Support
Who do I contact about my account or a refund?
If you need a hand with your account before we close, our Support team is here to help. Get in touch.
If you're eligible for a refund on a paid subscription, we'll send a separate email before the closure date with details on how and when this will be processed.
Is there a deadline to get in touch about an issue?
We'd recommend contacting us before 30 November 2026. Once our systems are decommissioned, our ability to look into account-specific issues will be limited.
