When Rachael met Tepaki
CANTERBURY
I felt a very strong connection to the photo of my new fiance when I first saw it. It was crazy, he was in the wrong part of the country, different nationality, and hadn't been online in 8 months! We started talking the next day and things blossomed from there, I definitely think that being separated by a computer screen and being on different islands certainly helped us, we probably opened up a lot more than if we were in person. We were able to skype for months and really get to know each other on a more personal level. I think if we had met in a bar I wouldn't have given him a second look (Because he wasn't what I was expecting as a future husband!) Now we have booked our wedding! We totally fell in love through the computer screen, and to think I only logged in to delete my profile because I decided "I don't want to meet a man this way, I want to try it the old fashioned way"..... Haha. We're so in love and I'm glad I never deleted my profile!

What attracted you first about your partner?
I was totally attracted to his smile! His face simply glows and exudes happiness, he lights up like a kid on Christmas!

What made you try online dating?
I had my account for years and would click back in every now and then, update my profile and try to find a match. I had been a member for 7 years when I decided I would have another go last year so I updated the profile again and tried my luck. I didn't get very far. After a month I decided that even though I was too busy to actually go out and meet someone I didn't want to meet someone online after all so came online to delete my profile and as it so turned out.... I took one last scroll through and saw his picture and something said to me "TALK TO HIM!" So I paid $10 and spoke to him and it was the best $10 I ever spent!

How long did you chat online before meeting up?
We chatted for 3 months before meeting. The only problem was the geographical issue (He was Auckland, I am Christchurch) So the next time I had a business trip up there we went on our first date... KFC and bowling!
